EX VIRTUAL FURY 05 -- DAY 1
The unit computer-assisted exercise, VIRTUAL FURY 05, finished its first day yesterday, with both sides doing some damage. Unlike most CF exercises, where the "enemy force" is limited in what it can do to some extent, VIRTUAL FURY uses open, opposed play, with unit staff controlling both sides. The exercise involves a Multinational and an OPFOR brigade facing off in a medium-intensity environment. Excerpt from the battle damage assessment:
"In the most skillful Int-related action of the night, the corporal controlling Red UAVs caught sight of a stationary helicopter, and passed the grid down to the VFFA commander, who was able to bring effective mortar fire on it. The helo flight supporting a Blue battalion lost one bird, either here or possibly duelling with Red ground recce elements probing the Gust Plain later on.
"At the end of the night, a bitter little firefight broke out between Red recce elements at Paquette Landing and Blue recce elements south of the Petawawa River, in Ventora proper. The Lemgonians lost 1 BRDM2 and 2 men, Blue lost one LUV and had another immobilized, and six personnel casualties."
